How many Ice Ages have we had?
Science Club - Year 2 to 5
Did you know we have had 5 main Ice Ages on Earth? Do you the causes or the effects? Our kids will be able to teach you a thing or two!
The effects of global warming was also experimented before we moved on to making our snowman!
Nothing beats making an eyeball for Halloween!
Science Club - Kindy & Stage 1
A Halloween themed lesson where we learnt everything we could about eyes. Why are our eye colours different? How do we see? And how is it protected?
We loved the experiment showing how images are reflected into our eyes but having an eyeball to go home with really made everyone’s day!
Is money an important invention?
News, Presentation & Debate Club
Our current affairs article today was the transition of transactions from cash to digital payments.
I’m so impressed with our kids. Everyone had so much to offer when we debated on whether money is an important invention. Thanks for your arguments. I couldn’t come up with better pointers myself!
Are these still the kiddies that started reading with us?
Kindy Beginners
Our Kindies have come such a long way. Today we read a story and discussed the importance of chores and everyone had some opinions to share in their writing.
Afterwards, excitement filled the room with some impromptu drama games before summarising the importance of voice projection.
From the Stone Ages to the Metal Ages.
Science Club - Year 2 to 5
From cave dwellings to villages, curiosity filled the room as we discussed how humans lived before written records. Which animals were first domesticated? Which plants were the first to be cultivated? Which metals were first used and how?
Of course, a little knowledge on how time is recorded goes a long way! And, it wouldn’t quite be science if we didn’t have an experiment on metal conductivity!
Vertebrate v invertebrate…
Science Club - Kindy & Stage 1
It is so easy to remember everything taught in science when it’s packed with fun filled activities and experiments.
The dissection in particular was a hit, even if they had to hold their noses!
Guess what I’ve got!
Creative Writing Club
Today we learnt to use describing words for our senses!
To make it extra interesting, everyone had to read out their writing on what they felt, smelt, tasted or heard in their picture, and the class had to guess which one they picked! Just watch them get serious!
Practice is the only way…
News, Presentation & Debate Club
How do you express your opinions in a logical order? How do you present confidently? There are so many tricks and tips, but nothing beats just giving it a go!
We lighten the mood with ‘introducing a fake friend’ before getting down the serious topics!
The mystery of life on Earth…
Science Club - Year 2 to 5
How old is the Earth? How did life on Earth begin? How did it evolve? And when did we come along?
Just a couple of things your child will be able to enlighten you with, after our activities and experiments today.
Exploring the star…
Science Club - Kindy & Stage 1
Exploring the stars was so much fun! We’re constantly amazed by how much our kids already know and is capable of absorbing!
Apologies to the parents in advance if your child comes home asking for a real telescope!
Everyone loves comics!
Creative Writing Club
Today we used comic strips as a way to introduce dialogue into narratives. With a little bit of cutting, pasting & drawing, it’s amazing what our little writers can accomplish in one afternoon!
Kindies giving a sales pitch to sell their machines…
Kindy Beginners
Today we designed our own machines and went on stage to make the sale! It was a difficult task for all but everyone tackled it with enthusiasm and dedication. Some named their machines after their mum or dad in an effort to boost sales!
Between worksheets, we squeezed a silly poem recital. Kids were not shy to express what frustration sounds like if bird poo lands on their heads!
Design a super hero to combat the Snuggly Monster!
Creative Writing Club
We had a monster with horns and three eyes, who’s powered by science and brews potions to aid him in stealing lollies from all the children.
What superheros, will our kids come up with to combat this ghastly beast!
Ironically, next, we did a little fantasizing on breaking rules ourselves…
What is your cosmic address?
Science Club - Year 2 to 5
Let’s go beyond our solar system to understand where we are, and how small we are! After making 3 bottles of galaxies, we learnt a little more on the different types of galaxies and why the moon is inhabitable by humans. Amazing concentration everyone!
Create your own skeletal hand.
Science Club - Kindergarten & Year 1, Science Club - Year 2 to 5
When building out our hands to observe the workings of our bones, the older kids definitely had the upper hand. They were more nifty with their scissors and straws! Nevertheless, our Kindies held their own.
Let’s talk about media!
Debate & Presentation Club
I know this is a debate club, but our kids wouldn’t have much to lean on without the skills to adequately research on the topics for discussion. A couple of things to emphasize and focus on: reputable sources, reason for bias, consistency across sources, expert opinion, stats and figures.
For practice, our kids have identified a couple of areas they’d be interested in reading up on - Prions, Kombucha, Newtons laws, Aboriginal culture, and “a very bad drug”. Not quite what I expected, but definitely a good starting points!
We all loved Splodger…
Kindy Beginners
“What a mess!” was everyone’s favorite expression in our story of the day. We not only read with expression, we also took turns pretending to be the messy Splodger on stage! What an amazing performance!
Splodger may be naughty, but our Kindies certainly aren’t. We put on paper what we liked about our story, and then moved on to practicing constructing more sentences. Thank you all for your enthusiasm!
Polar bear hands sounds exciting, but the greasy fat wasn’t appealing to all!
Science Club - Kindergarten & Year 1
In today’s science, we learnt about different habitats around the world and how animals adapted to their environment.
The craft, worksheet and outdoor activities were all fine. But some of our little ones were not impressed with the oily fat residue left on their hands, after they experienced how polar bears are protected from the cold!
Taking a break with silly impromptus…
Debate & Presentation Club
Today, once our teams finessed their first speaker speeches, we took a break doing some silly impromptus. It was hard but we all gave it a go. I wonder if parents would have done a better job at arguing the following:
Why Yoda should do gymnastics.
Why frogs should have perfect school attendance.
Why unicorns should own mobile phones.
Why grandparents should do homework every night.
Chopping made the lesson on Plant Transportation.
Science Club - Year 2 to 5
The outdoors, the experiments, the competitions and worksheets are good.
But what really made the lesson today was the chopping! Now we all have in depth knowledge on xylem…
